Izere Mubyeyi class & extra-curricular activities

The different activities that take place at Izere Mubyeyi are a result of effective scheduling and trained personnel. From the nursery section to the Special Needs Education (SNE), classes happen on a daily basis and the students follow a structured curriculum to ensure their cognitive adaptability. Within these sessions, these children/young people are able to learn using special materials suitable for their age and receptive capacity. These materials range from images, alphabetical letters, poems in nursery to advanced games, and stories to develop speech in the special education level.

The children in inclusive nursery learn how to interact with each other, how to read and write through an adapted inclusive curriculum. The young people in special education also learn the aspects of physical and social autonomy to enhance being independent in their daily living. Izere Mubyeyi Centre also offers physiotherapy sessions for children with severe disabilities as a tool to also help them experience autonomy and improve their learning process.

Additionally, the assigned teachers are responsible for follow-up on the progress of the students and establishing strategies to ease the learning process. This being said, the parents also play a significant role in the academic improvement of the children by being in constant communication with the teachers, thus identifying appropriate means to better assist them.

As part of the children’s cognitive development, they engage in a number of games during break time such as football, schule back, and boccia. They also get to share meals to both revitalize themselves and also build a connection as individuals. The growth so far is undeniable but more efforts are still being invested to reach a wider range of children/young people with intellectual disabilities and use the adequate learning methodologies to meet this end.
